Boosting Innovation in Engineering

Biography

2012 - 2013. My scientific journey began at the MATGAS research center, where I completed the final degree project of my Telecommunication engineering studies. During this time, I had the opportunity to contribute to the European project LoLiPEM, addressing energy efficiency challenges in polymer electrolyte membranes. This contribution aligned with global efforts to improve clean energy technologies, showcasing the societal impact of developing sustainable solutions for the energy sector.

2013 - 2018. I joined the Microwave Antennas and Systems Group at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona as a predoctoral researcher, where I pursued both Master's and Doctoral studies. In this period, I investigated radio frequency identification (RFID) technologies for wearable and on metal applications.

2015 and 2016. I undertook a research stay at the Pervasive Electromagnetics Lab, an internationally recognized team specializing in RFID technology. I was invited to work on a research project at Università degli studi di Roma Tor Vergata, in collaboration with the Italian Agency for New Technologies (ENEA). In this ambitious project, I designed and implemented a wireless temperature monitoring system within a high-frequency cyclotron (CARM) used for plasma heating.

2018 - 2019. I embarked on a postdoctoral stay at the Esisar research center in Grenoble-INP, working in the ScattererID project (ERC consolidator grant) programming radiofrequency measurement systems, testing novel manufacturing methodologies for chipless RFID tags, and designing an algorithm to program CBRAM cells to variable resistance values. These contributions expanded the potential applications of RFID technology, particularly in advanced manufacturing.

2019 - 2022. Eager to explore further applications for RFID, I joined the Ubiquitous Computing Applications Laboratory (UbiCA Lab) of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra as a project researcher. Here, I gained knowledge in robotics, improved my programming and hardware-software integration skills, and applied artificial intelligence (AI) methods. I implemented AI to enable inventory robots to identify objects and other robots, creating technology that was later transferred to the industry. The project resulted in 5 high-impact journal publications and has been commercialized by Keonn Technologies, making a tangible contribution to automating inventory management and reducing operational costs for businesses.

2022 - 2025. I am working as a senior researcher in the Wireless Networks group of the Open University of Catalonia, focusing on the integration of RFID-based sensors into everyday life. My research aims at improving health monitoring using unassisted battery-less and low-cost UHF RFID-based sensors for wearable devices, such as sweat rate monitors. These developments can directly impact public health by enabling affordable and continuous biomarker monitoring.
